We are committed to finding our cats and dogs a suitable and permanent home. We want both the family and the pet to be happy and get along very well.
In order to achieve this, we have developed over the years a process that we follow to ensure a smooth transition for both the pets and their new families.

Adopting a dog or puppy

  • FIRST CONTACT: On your first contact with us, our staff will offer advice on which dog suits your family and encourage you to visit and spend time with your chosen dog before making a commitment. In the shelter there can be lots of distractions for a dog, so allowing the dog to calm down and know you a bit will help them show you their personality so much more than from inside the kennel.
  • DECISION: Once you have made a decision that you wish to adopt one of our dogs, you will be asked to fill in a Home Finder form which reserves the dog in your name. A 30 euro deposit is required at this stage. The form will highlight a few questions that you might need to consider before making the commitment and it’s meant to raise any questions you might not have thought of yet.
  • PREPARATION: We will bring the dog off site to our vet where the dog will have a basic health check and be neutered/spayed if needed. The dog will also be microchipped and treated for any parasites. If the puppy is not ready to be neutered yet, we will give you a free neutering voucher which can be used when the puppy reaches 5/6 months of age. Contact numbers of the veterinary clinics are written on the voucher and you will need to contact the clinic directly and makes arrangements with them to have the puppy neutered.
  • HOME VISIT: Due to covid 19 restrictions we will not be carrying out homechecks until it is deemed safe to do so. Our staff will assess the suitability of potential homes for our animals verbally and online. 
  • COLLECTION: Once your home is checked and the dog has recovered from the neutering operation, we will contact you to arrange collection. On the collection day, we ask that you bring with you some photo ID and a utility bill. This is required under the microchipping of dogs act. A dog license is also required. This can be purchased online or at any post office (Read more about purchasing a dog license). There is also a small shop on site where you can purchase the basic pet accessories like dog lead, collar, bed, and food bowls.
  • ADOPTION DONATION: The remaining adoption donation of 140 euro is required before collection. This is to help us cover the costs involved in the neutering, vaccinations and microchipping and help us continue in our work and save more animals.
  • PET PAPERWORK: We will give you an envelope containing full records of your dog’s vaccination, microchip details and some helpful tips on what to expect with your new arrival.
  • Please note that the adoption process can take up to 10 days if the dog needs to recover from neutering/spaying surgery.

 

Adopting  a cat or kitten

  • FIRST CONTACT: On your visit to our sanctuary a member of our staff will direct you to our main cattery where you can spend some time with our cats and kittens before making the decision on which pet you would like to take home. We will also be able to answer your questions and offer advice. Please note that for some cats, being in a kennel or in a noisy environment can be stressful, so please be patient with them until they get to know you a little bit.
  • DECISION: Once you made your decision on which cat you want to adopt, you will be asked to fill in a Home Finder form which reserves the cat in your name. The form will highlight a few questions that you might need to consider before making the commitment and it’s meant to raise any questions you might not have thought of yet.
  • PREPARATION: We will bring the cat off site to our vet where the cat will have a basic health check and be neutered/spayed if needed and treated for any parasites. At your request, for an additional 20 euro on added to the 70 euro adoption fee, we can also microchip the cat. If the kitten is not yet ready to be neutered, we will give you a free neutering voucher which can be used when the cat reaches 5/6 months of age. Contact numbers of the veterinary clinics are written on the voucher and you will need to contact the clinic directly and makes arrangements with them to have the puppy neutered.
  • COLLECTION: Once the cat has recovered from the neutering operation, we will contact you to arrange collection. On the collection day, we will ask you to fill in an adoption form and also bring with you a secure transport carrier to take your cat home. Some basic pet accessories can be purchased on site like cat carrier, beds, food bowls, litter trays, collars, and toys.
  • ADOPTION DONATION: We require a 70 euro adoption donation before taking your cat home. This is to help us cover the costs involved in the neutering and vaccinations and help us continue in our work and save more animals.
  • PET PAPERWORK: We will give you an envelope containing full records of your cat’s vaccination, microchip details (if applicable) and some helpful tips on what to expect with your new arrival.
  • Please note that the adoption process can take up to 10 days if the cat needs to recover from neutering surgery.
