Wicklow SPCA takes in hundreds of at-risk and unwanted animals every year and ensures they are healthy through proper housing, healthy feeding and access to veterinary treatment.

Spaying and neutering are surgical procedures performed by veterinarians that render animals incapable of breeding by removing their reproductive organs. This procedure positively impacts the issue of pet overpopulation.

Every dog now needs to be microchipped and registered on a government approved database and owners must possess a certificate for each dog they own. Wicklow SPCA offer microchipping and regularly promote the practice through free or reduced cost events.

Adoption is the primary program through which the Wicklow SPCA finds new loving homes for animals in our care. We actively inform the public of animals that are available for adoption, and ensure that they are in full health and vaccinated before being rehomed. For potential new pet owners, adoption offers a less expensive ownership option and the chance to give a deserving animal a new lease on life. Our foster home program allows the shelter to increase the total amount of animals cared for, in addition to increasing the chances that animals can hope to find a forever home thereafter.

As a stakeholder in our community, Wicklow SPCA works closely with our neighbours and local organisations to offer training, internships and employment. We welcome and encourage those with particular needs, or challenging behaviors to experience animal assisted therapies and have seen considerable successes through these programmes.
